Bicycle Mechanics Level C
A level that certifies the ability to work on the principal mechanical systems of a bicycle through technical knowledge, practical execution, and an orderly, repeatable workshop method.
SCHEME SPECIFICATION
Level C technical competence
Scheme: Professional Bicycle Mechanic Level C.
Scope: technical diagnostics; wheels and hubs; headsets; braking systems; mechanical drivetrains; bottom brackets and cranks, carried out using a professional workshop method.
Intended candidates: bicycle mechanics who wish to demonstrate their ability to carry out interventions, verify outcomes, and work to an orderly, repeatable method.
Level within the framework: Level C. It completes a progression comprising Levels A, B, and C, and certifies the integration of technical knowledge, practical execution, and professional conduct.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Evidence required for your application
Candidates must provide evidence that allows VSB to verify their training or experience in bicycle mechanics before competence verification takes place.
- A valid identity document issued by the relevant country.
- Records of training, certifications, or professional experience in bicycle mechanics.
- A pass in the Competence Verification (CV) examination.
AREAS OF COMPETENCE
Verifiable mechanical interventions
The assessment considers understanding of each system, execution of the intervention, and functional verification of the outcome under conditions representative of a workshop.
Wheels, hubs, and headsets
Replaces spokes, trues and aligns wheels, services hubs, and disassembles, assembles, and adjusts threaded and threadless headsets without play or abnormal friction.
Brakes and drivetrains
Installs, adjusts, and bleeds braking systems; adjusts and services mechanical drivetrains; and works on bottom-bracket assemblies, cranks, and chainring assemblies.
CERTIFICATION CRITERION
Three dimensions to be demonstrated together
Knowledge: understands systems, measurements, operation, and intervention procedures.
Practical skill: carries out each operation with a verifiable functional outcome.
Professional conduct: works with order, sound judgement, and a repeatable workshop sequence.
